Pastel paintings from Life

Hello and welcome to my first blog. I have been painting steadily for the past several months. I first started out in watercolors. I loved using watercolor but found the medium very challenging. I also am not a very patient person and found that waiting for things to dry just drove me crazy. I was first introduced to pastels by my father who is an artist as well. For my birthday he sent me a book all about using pastels. I read the book and thought I would give it a try. I rushed out to the nearest art store, bought the cheapest pastels I could find and ran home to try me hand at using them. I immediately fell in love! The colors were so beautiful and I loved how I could layer many colors on top of one another and get new colors. Also I did not have to wait for the painting to dry! I knew I would be hooked for a very long time. I experimented with different brands of pastels and paper and fell in love with the very soft Terry Ludwigs and sanded papers. What a difference a really good pastel made in the quality of my work! I subsequently threw out all those cheap pastels! Today I am painting on a regular basis and will be posting new paintings to my blog as they come off the easel. All my paintings are for sale.
